I'M 5!

That is all this little man said this morning... and I mean at least 40 times. It was like he needed to convince himself, like it seemed too good to be true.

I wish it did not break my heart. I wish it felt good to Momma that he is 5... that he is about to go to Kindergarten and be more independent than I am ready for. I wish it did not make me sad to see him growing and changing everyday. Learning new things (even letters) and braving new adventures. But for some reason, this sweet, sensitive boy has his Momma wrapped right around her finger and I need a little more time with him just like he is. The kind of little boy who likes to wake up from nap and sit in Momma's lap for a little while, or likes to pretend (3 or 4 times) that I forgot the bedtime kiss just so he could steal another.

He is going to be his sister's best friend and protector. She is going to have a hard time without him next year. He will play whatever she wants and even told me today that I could use his birthday money to buy a princess game for HIS Leapster so they could play together. (Girls watch out... this one is going to be a keeper).

I understand him and his personality a lot more than the bigger boys, because he is just like ME! (both good and bad) He is a tender hearted boy, who sticks with what he knows (even if it is bologna and cheese-STILL), and faithful friend. He does not forget when you hurt him, but forgives and keeps on loving (even if from a slight distance).

God knew (in so many ways) what he was doing when he gave me THIS boy. My third son, my angel without wings, my love! Happy Birthday Silas, I LOVE YOU!

SEVEN

There are really no words to explain watching your babies turn into boys. Seven years ago this little boy entered the world with reckless abandon.

He was both an answer to prayer after a misscarriage and a sweet reminder of the blessings of a healthy baby that we sometimes take for granted. His birth was one of the first times that I felt God show me personally how he works miracles in lives TODAY.

Callan means "to shriek or to scream" and I do not know why I did not know that before he was born because that describes Callan in so many ways both as a baby and now. This little boy has challenged my parenting and captured my heart. His sweet face melts me to a puddle and his passion for things he believes in sometimes scares me. He is both a lover and a fighter in every way possible and has shown me that just because a parenting style works for one, does not mean that it will come close for another. He is very independant and loves just to have some time to himself to do what he wants to do. He does not care about being the best (like his brother) and is totally fine with standing back and letting others be in the spotlight.

For his birthday, he chose to skip the party and purchase a DS. He has only recently begun to enjoy the games like his older brother. All day today (when we were not at church or outside playing in the beautiful weather) you could find him like this...

I even let him stay up a little past bed time to enjoy his new game. After all, it is not every day that you turn 7!

A Valentine's Love Story

There was once a cute little momma's boy,

Who discovered that food was not always mushy wetness from a spoon.

This newfoud love (that big people called "Cheerios") brought him much joy.

So much so that he began to call for them with a caveman like grunt.

As if to say... "Bring me this great new food, momma that I love".

The end.

Snow... and the BEST parenting ever

We have had record snowflakes around these parts lately. We spent the first big snowfall down at our neighbor friends sledding, sliding, 4-wheeling, and playing. I did not get my own pictures because it was quite slippery and I was doing well to hold myself and my 20 pound baby up on the ice.

There is a photo from my childhood of our home in the snow. I love that picture. I just looks so peaceful. So I took one myself.

THEN... we were stranded at home for days and I had run out of entertainment. So I got the wise idea to bribe the boys with a little cash . They were glass eyed from too much TV and (choose your) game system play. So I got them to clear the back deck. I went out (in my PJ's) to clear some space for the dog to go out because she likes to make sure she is not missing out on what the neighbors dogs are doing, and realized that it was quite a workout (it was ice). After a little time I wised up and sent the kids for some outdoor activity... and convinced Bay that it would give his arm a workout for baseball season =). Yes, they went out in their PJ's and yes they were short sleeved, but they warmed up quickly... and had so much fun I had to make them come back in for lunch. They only wore gloves because the ice hurt their hands. May have not been my finest parenting moment... but they had fun.
