Let me preface this by saying that I told Brent (my hunter man) that I did not ever want a handgun in our house. Sure I could stand his hunting paraphernalia, but a handgun was entirely different. Then someone in our neighborhood woke up with a stranger in her closet, a bank on the corner got robbed and sent the schools on lock down, and a restaurant that is within walking distance got "shot up" by someone who was just angry. Now, Brent has a handgun. Friday night, he and his dad took a class that would allow him to get his right to carry permit. The class was from 6PM unto about 2AM. And the wee hours of the morning involved time at the shooting range. While he was sleeping in Saturday morning, I found his target. I had to check it out, because if there was going to be a handgun in my house, I had to know what kind of shot he is. I am impressed.
This is 50 rounds! 40 of those shots were right in the center. The other 10 were still in the main circles and the one that is the furthest out (but still in the circles) was due to a gun jam.
Saturday, Brent had a Missions Meeting a church so the kids and I broke down and created our traditional gingerbread structure. The before (yes, it was hot glued... we are not patient enough to wait on the icing to dry enough to hold it together). Then they went to town... it was a gooey mess... but fun for at least 15 minutes. Callan sang "It's a Holly, Jolly Christmas" (those words only) over and over again.
After they were finished and it was sitting proudly on the table we left it to just be, and about 10 minutes later... Eliza came to where I was with her mouth overfilled, grunting. She had raided the train and had about 14 pieces of its decor stuffed in her mouth. Luckily she spit them out and we learned our lesson and put the train up high. When I took their picture with the train, they all agreed that it should be the family Christmas Card. I am not planning on doing a card this year, but there will be a picture coming soon of them all dressed up together. It IS the Jones tradition.
More coming soon.

What a wonderul train, great job guys. I wish I had been there to help engineer that process. I love making Christmas memories. Nommie
Impressive shooting! I dislike guns but my first husband was ex-military and a hunter so I made him teach me to use each gun in our house. I was a surprisingly decent shot but still not a big fan.
And cute train!
Had to laugh about the train. Jackson did this once too. It was also a train instead of the traditional house. The best part was I had the *bright* idea of saving it for future displays at Christmas time so Charlie coated it with clear coat, and I mean the professional kind that you can't even buy at H*me Dep*t! So Jackson ate some of it and digested it. I called the ped. and she looked it up online and said, "How much did he eat?" When I told her about two mouths full, she said, "Don't worry about it." He never got sick and I don't think it did any major damage. LOL!
I don't suggest coating the train for future holidays but if you wanted to, I know the professional for the job!
Reading that first paragraph made me feel like we live in Harlem or something.......
I'm going to be frightened knowing that Brent is packing heat. I'll have to watch what I say to him from now on. I wouldn't want to anger him. That also foiled my plan of hiding in your closet and scaring you when you get in the bed.
reminds me of my shots when i was younger and had better vision. if i was to shoot someone now, i wouldn't turn out to be a pretty picture.
the gingerbread train looks great! kuddos to you for doing this. noah wanted to create a gingerbread house this year and i keep putting him off in the hopes he forgets.
Okay, your law enforcement friend is going to tell you that having a gun in the house is NOT and I repeat NOT a bad thing. It's a great opportunity to teach the kids as they grow up gun safety. Curious kids are the ones that get hurt. Also, you can't control what goes on at other people's houses, but you can teach your kids to run away from a kid at "his" house who finds daddy's gun or who wants to show off his parent's gun. As you can imagine, I can repel a small army at my house! Margie
It definitely would be a great Christmas Card pic - except - the "decor thief" is missing! Was she too scared to get near it again?
